Hulder trails in Lardal

The Hulder Trails in Lardal are a network of 15 marked walking routes leading to hilltops and other destinations in the forests around Svarstad and across Lardal in Larvik municipality. Choose from shorter woodland walks to longer, steeper hikes. At the destinations, you will find logbooks where you can record your visit.

Find a trail that suits you
The Hulder Trails are spread across the Lardal area. Some follow woodland paths with gentle or moderate climbs, while others involve steeper terrain and longer distances. Tanumkollen is an option for a shorter outing, with a marked route of approximately one kilometre and a longer alternative of just under two kilometres. Myraåsen offers views across Svarstad. A blue-marked trail leads up from Lindsverkvatninga, and there are picnic tables and benches near the summit.

Hilltop views and longer walks
For more elevation, consider Skalhogg or Stubbekollen. Skalhogg has two circular walking options: a shorter route of approximately three kilometres and a longer one of about 5.5 kilometres. From the top, you can enjoy views towards Merkedammen and the Oslofjord. Stubbekollen, at 617 metres above sea level, is the highest of the Hulder Trail destinations. Its blue-marked circular route is approximately 3.8 kilometres long, with some steep sections. The walk also passes Hyttekollen.

Sign the summit logbook
A distinctive part of the Hulder Trails is the logbook at each destination. Write your name and the date to mark your visit. The trails are maintained by Svarstad Sports Club and Lardal Orienteering Club. The first routes were marked in 1996, and the clubs continue to maintain the trails and organise a registration scheme for walkers visiting several destinations.

Choose your route before setting out
Each Hulder Trail is a separate walk, with its own starting point, distance, parking arrangements and terrain. Check the details for your chosen route before travelling. The official Hulder Trails website provides route descriptions and maps. Some trailheads are accessed along forest roads with toll gates. For more walking ideas, explore walking routes in Larvik.
