Open Ship Tallship Artemis (former Pol II)

A Special Homecoming After 100 Years

In 2026, tallship Artemis returns to Larvik, the place where her story began exactly one hundred years ago.

The ship was built in 1926 as the whaling vessel Pol II for the Larvik shipping company Melsom & Melsom. From Larvik, she sailed to the Southern Ocean. During the century that followed, the vessel served as a whaler, minesweeper, cargo ship and eventually as a three-masted barque.

During Open Ship, you are warmly invited to come aboard and experience this remarkable vessel up close. Walk the deck, visit the saloon and discover the rich history of a ship that returns to its roots after one hundred years.

A short documentary about the history of Artemis and her connection to Larvik will be shown continuously on board. Crew members will be available to answer questions and share stories about the ship.

A unique opportunity to experience a piece of maritime history.

Welcome aboard!
