Midgard Viking Centre marks its opening for 2027 with a jóleblot in Gildehallen. Jóleblot was a midwinter celebration associated with the transition to a new year in Norse times.
Children can take part in activities including Viking themed face painting and making rune decorated bragebrikker. Visitors can also meet Vikings and experience the hall with its fire and activities.
Sausages are available for purchase and can be cooked over the fire inside the hall. Bringing your own food is not permitted.
At 3 pm, there will be a storytelling session. The day concludes with non alcoholic mead and a short blot ceremony led by the gydje. Visitors are invited to make their own brageløfter, personal promises about something they would like to accomplish in the coming year.
The family friendly event offers an introduction to Norse traditions through storytelling, crafts and activities.
Special event admission prices apply, and the event is not included with annual passes.
