Botnemarka is a woodland recreation area west of Holmestrand, with marked walking trails, forest roads and cross-country ski tracks. Enjoy peaceful surroundings, viewpoints overlooking the Oslofjord and outdoor activities throughout the year.
Walking trails through the forest
Botnemarka has a network of marked trails, offering everything from shorter woodland walks to longer hikes through varied terrain. One popular route is the Fossglaner circular walk, which passes through the forest and the Fossglaneren viewpoint, offering views across the Oslofjord. The trail also passes Sollivann, a small lake surrounded by woodland. The circular route is approximately 5.7 kilometres long, with several climbs, and is graded as moderately demanding on UT.no. See the Fossglaner route map and directions on UT.no.
Cross-country skiing in Botnemarka
During winter, Botnemarka is a popular destination for cross-country skiing. When snow conditions allow, ski tracks are groomed through the forest, including a route to the DNT cabin at Brannåsen. From Botnestua, it is approximately 3.7 kilometres to Brannåsen along an illuminated ski trail. Botnemarka lies relatively high above the fjord and may offer good snow conditions compared with lower coastal areas. Check current trail grooming and snow conditions before setting out.
