Guided tour of Midtåsen (in norwegian)

The beautiful former home of shipping magnate and philanthropist Anders Jahre is now owned by the Norwegian Government. The house, which sits in 15 acres of grounds (Midtåsen), was built in the 1930s and designed by renowned Norwegian architect Arnstein Arneberg. It was the home of Anders and his wife Bess until his death in 1982, and Bess continued to live there until her death in the summer of 2006. The estate, which has a unique park containing a number of sculptures and with fantastic views over the Sandefjord fjord, is open to the general public.

There is  a new indoor sculpture park at Midtåsen featuring a selection of the works of Knut Steen in marble and bronze. The sculptures are placed within their own pavilion in the midst of beautiful natural surroundings.

Opening hours of the Schulpture park: Every day 10.00-19.00. Free entrance.

The gorgeous park around the estate is also worth a visits and offers one of the best views of the town.

Larvik Sauna

Larvik Sauna is a unique and social meeting place, right in the middle of the town! The sauna is open year-round, and has a stairs to the sea right outside for a refreshing swim.

In scenic surroundings, Larvik Sauna welcomes you to a fresh and authentic Nordic experience. Here you can combine 80°C temperatures with a refreshing swim in the Larviksfjord.

Booking and facilities

You can book a private sauna (for up to 12 people) or a shared sauna (up to 10 people) at larviksauna.no. The sauna can be reserved for 60 or 90 minutes at a time. The sauna stove will be fully heated upon arrival, and the sauna is cleaned every day.

There is a large changing room, toilet, indoor shower and outdoor shower.

The sauna has an age limit of 18, but children are welcome accompanied by a guardian.
