Chapel at the harbour

In this atmospheric chapel everyone is welcome for a quiet moment and candle lighting. There's also a memorial room with a commemorative plaque for the Norwegian whalers who were buried in South Georgia.

Although Bryggekapellet is primarily supposed to be a room of silence, they hold three weekly evening events in the summer. The chapel is also rented out to other suitable events, and there have been many weddings held here over the years.

The chapel is open every day during the summer period. For the rest of the year, a memorial meeting is held once a month.

There is room for 30 people in the chapel.

Ula Beach

The beach is in the heart of a small bay protected from the wild ocean. It has fine shallow sandy beaches surrounded by smooth rocks in the archipelago of Skagerrak.

In the old days Ula was an important harbor and fishing port. The sea outside of Ula can be tough, so the well-known lodesman Ulabrand safeguarded many sailors here. There is a stone monument of Ulabrand at the top of the mountain hill by the harbor. From this spot, you will experience an extraordinary view, so don't miss it when you get here. Today, Ula is a popular holiday resort with many cabins and a charming marina. The coastal trail passes by and makes it a great place for hiking. There's a kiosk, trash cans and a swimming raft. Toilets at the camping area.

To get there by car, follow Rv303/Tjøllingveien to Ulaveien. Signs to Ula. Parking at the end of the road.

Sandar Church

The church as it stands today is made of wood, and was erected in 1792 in the Louis XV style. From the beginning, the church had a hemispherical dome instead of a spire, but this was changed in 1868 to the spire we know today.

The altarpiece from 1807 symbolizes the women at the cross, and was painted by Frederik Petersen.

Since 1929, the church has undergone a number of improvements, such as the installation of floodlights, electric heating and a baptismal sacristy.

Sandar church is protected, and only open in connection with church actions and other announced events. It is surrounded by a cemetery.

The church has 800 seats.

Sandefjord Art Association

The Art Association of Sandefjord aims to promote visual arts through exhibitions of both Norwegian and international artists, as well as of promising amateurs.

The Art Association hosts events like art-evenings, workshops on art for children, book launches and seminars.

Their gallery is a bright, light and lovely arena overlooking the park outside the Scandic Park Sandefjord Hotel.  Entrance from Badeparken.

Free entrance.

Sandefjord Church

The original church where Sandefjord church stands today was a small, white wooden church from 1872. It was destroyed in the town fire in 1900, along with large parts of the city center in general. After the fire, today's Sandefjord church was built in brick, and was completed in 1903.

The interior of the church has subsequently been significantly renewed. The altarpiece was made in 1963 by Dagfinn Werenskiold, and consists of 17 fields roughly carved in mahogany. It is of considerable size and contains scenes from the life of Jesus.

Sandefjord Church is known for its good acoustics, and a number of concerts are organized both during the day and in the evening.

The carillon in Sandefjord Church is computer-controlled, and is of international standard. It plays every hour during the day.

The church is only open in connection with church activities and announced events, as well as Wednesdays in the summer.

The church has 600 seats.

The Whale catcher Southern Actor

"Southern Actor" was built i 1950 for Sevilla Whaling Co. Ltd which was managed by Chr. Salvesen & Co., Scotland. The funnel still carries Salvesens colours. The whale catcher was brought to Sandefjord in 1989 and has undergone extensive restoration with former whalers having made an active contribution. It is fully operative with its original steam engine intact. Southern Actor is the only whale catcher from the Modern Whaling Epoch still found in original working order.
