Galleri Ask

Galleri Ask is a contemporary art gallery in the historic Town Hall Quarter of Åsgårdstrand. Its changing exhibitions feature visual art, sculpture, photography, installations and contemporary crafts. The exhibitions often explore themes relevant to the world today, and visitors may have the opportunity to meet the exhibiting artists in person.

Åsgårdstrand has inspired artists for generations. Galleri Ask continues this tradition through a changing exhibition programme featuring different artistic practices, materials and perspectives. The exhibitions explore contemporary themes ranging from nature and society to identity, memory and human experience. Each visit offers something different, depending on the exhibition currently on display.
The gallery's intimate setting gives visitors the opportunity to experience the artworks up close and take time to discover their details.

Meet the artists behind the exhibitions
One of Galleri Ask's distinctive features is the close connection between artists and visitors. Exhibiting artists often staff the gallery themselves, creating opportunities for conversations about their work, creative processes and ideas. Established in 1994, Galleri Ask is operated by Horten Municipality. An artist-led jury with representatives from regional visual arts and crafts organisations helps select the exhibition programme. Throughout the season, the gallery presents solo exhibitions and collaborative projects across a range of contemporary art forms.

Explore the artistic heritage of Åsgårdstrand
Galleri Ask is located in Åsgårdstrand's historic Town Hall Quarter, a short walk from the waterfront, cafés and charming streets. Digital Munch, also located in the same quarter, offers another introduction to the town's artistic heritage. You can also visit Edvard Munch's House, where the artist spent many summers and found inspiration for several of his well-known paintings. Continue through the town's narrow streets towards the beach and waterfront, or combine your gallery visit with a coffee break in the centre of Åsgårdstrand.

Exhibitions and opening hours
Galleri Ask's exhibition season runs from March to September. During exhibition periods, the gallery is normally open Friday to Sunday, from 12 noon to 4 pm. Exhibitions change throughout the season, and there may be breaks between shows. Check the current exhibition programme on Galleri Ask's official website before visiting.

Galleri Ask is located on N. C. Nielsensgate in the historic Town Hall Quarter, 3179 Åsgårdstrand, in Horten municipality. The gallery is particularly suitable for visitors interested in contemporary art and smaller, personal exhibition experiences. Ingris isbar

Ingris Isbar is located on the lower ground floor of Hotel Wassilioff in central Stavern. The ice cream bar offers a wide selection of scooped ice cream, soft serve, sorbet, milkshakes and frappés. Choose from different flavours, cones, sprinkles and toppings to create your own favourite combination.

Ingris Isbar serves a selection of ice cream from Norwegian producer Hennig-Olsen, with a variety of flavours and toppings.
One of the specialities is traditional-style milkshakes, made using the scooped ice cream flavour of your choice. Soft serve and frappés are also available.

Badeparken i Åsgårdstrand

Badeparken is a waterfront park and beach in Åsgårdstrand, with a sandy shore, a spacious lawn and the marina right next door. There is plenty of room to settle down for a summer day by the Oslofjord, with a beach volleyball court, fixed barbecue facilities and a breakwater with swimming steps and a diving board. With shops, places to eat and the town's narrow streets just uphill from the beach, you can easily combine swimming with exploring Åsgårdstrand.

Find your spot by the sea
Spread your towel on the sand or choose a place on the grassy lawn. There is room for a picnic, a relaxing afternoon or time with the family between swims. If you feel like being active, head to the beach volleyball court. You can also bring food to cook on the permanent barbecues in the park.

Swim from the beach or the breakwater
Enter the water from the sandy beach or use the swimming steps on the breakwater. There is also a diving board for those who enjoy jumping into the sea. Always check the water depth and conditions before diving, and take care around other swimmers on busy summer days.

Explore Åsgårdstrand on foot
Badeparken is next to Åsgårdstrand Guest Harbour. The town's white wooden houses, small shops and galleries are a short walk uphill from the shore. For a taste of the town's artistic history, visit Edvard Munch's House. The artist spent many summers in Åsgårdstrand, and his former home is now a museum. You can also follow the coastal trail between Horten and Åsgårdstrand, which passes just north of the beach. A walk beside the fjord makes a lovely start to a day that ends with a swim.

A summer meeting place
Badeparken is a popular place to spend time by the water in summer. From the lawn, you can watch boats in the harbour and enjoy the atmosphere of the small coastal town. There are places to eat nearby, including the restaurant at Grand Hotel Åsgårdstrand, overlooking the Oslofjord. The park itself can be visited throughout the year, while swimming and picnics are especially popular during the warmer months.

Badeparken is located just below the centre of Åsgårdstrand. Swim from the sandy beach, relax on the lawn or walk out onto the breakwater.

The park has a sandy beach, a spacious lawn, a beach volleyball court, fixed barbecues and a breakwater with swimming steps and a diving board. Public toilets and a kiosk are located by the guest harbour. Toilets and service facilities are seasonal.

Getting here and parking
The address is Havnegata 9, 3179 Åsgårdstrand. Badeparken is beside the guest harbour, below the town centre and next to Grand Hotel Åsgårdstrand. Parking is available around the harbour. Check current parking rules before visiting.

Terrain and accessibility
The park has a large grassy area, a sandy beach and paths connecting it with the harbour. A ramp is listed at the beach, but wheelchair access into the water has not been confirmed. Contact the municipality if you need accessible swimming facilities.

Good to know
The park is free to visit throughout the year, with swimming most popular in summer. Check the water depth and conditions before using the diving board. Horten Municipality advises against swimming for two days after heavy rainfall. The coastal trail towards Horten begins just north of the beach.

Tandem jump with Skydive Tønsberg

Try a tandem skydive!

Skydive Tønsberg's tandem instructors are among the most excperienced in Norway, and will safely take you through the skydive. From 4.000 meters you will get approx 40 seconds of free fall before the instructor releases the parachute around 1.500 meters above the ground. During the five minute canopy ride you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Oslo fjord, the islands and the surroundigs of Jarlsberg airport.

Skydive Tønsberg 4-6 days a week, located at Jarlsberg airport right by E18 outside Tønsberg. The season for skydiving is from the end of April to the middle of October.

RS Noatun

RS Noatun has both small intimate meeting rooms and conference rooms for up to 150 people. Accommodation for 40 people.

The conference hall is located in the main building and is also a great venue for celebrations. For smaller groups the conference hall can be divided into two rooms.

In addition, RS Noatun offers a number of courses to the professional market through their Sea Rescue School, and activities for children and youth.

Restaurant Njord
The restaurant at Noatun offers daily lunch buffets with local food from Vestfold, in their nordic and modern premises.

Coastal trail in Moutmarka

Moutmarka lies on the south-western coast of Tjøme, just north of Verdens Ende, within Færder National Park. A blue-marked coastal trail of approximately 3 kilometres runs between the Skåebukta area and Mostranda. The walk takes you through an exposed coastal landscape with smooth rocks, rounded pebbles, grassy slopes and small patches of woodland. The sea is never far away, and the south-westerly wind can be strong.

A walk across rocks and open coastline
Moutmarka has a distinctive coastal landscape. The path crosses smooth rock formations, pebble-covered ground and open grassy areas with low vegetation. Along the trail, you will find views across the sea and shoreline. The surface varies, and some sections are uneven and rocky, so take care with your footing. Bring sturdy walking shoes and a windproof jacket, even when the weather seems mild.

From Verdens Ende towards Mostranda
One starting point is the parking area at Verdens Ende, at the southern tip of Tjøme. From here, follow Skåeveien west towards Moutmarka and join the blue-marked coastal trail heading north. At the northern end, you reach Mostranda, a sandy beach where you can stop for a break or enjoy a swim when conditions are suitable. You can return along the same trail. Alternatively, follow Moveien and the pedestrian and cycle path beside Helgerødveien towards Verdens Ende. Check the map before choosing this return route.

Prefer a circular walk?
Færder Municipality also describes a separate marked circular route of approximately 3.5 kilometres, starting near the public recreation area by Mostranda Camping. This route combines woodland and coastal paths, including Innerstien, Sydstien and Strandstien, and passes around the Jenteisen area. It is an alternative if you would like to return to the same parking area without walking the full coastal stretch towards Verdens Ende. Follow the municipality's map for the exact route.

Help protect the coastal landscape
Moutmarka is part of Færder National Park, a protected coastal area with important wildlife and natural habitats. You may encounter grazing sheep and other animals. Keep dogs on a lead, stay on established paths and respect the wildlife. Camping is not permitted in Moutmarka. Take your litter home and check the national park's rules on access and fires before visiting.

Plan your visit

Moutmarka is on the south-western side of Tjøme, just north of Verdens Ende. Choose between the approximately 3 km coastal trail and a separate 3.5 km circular walk described by Færder Municipality.

Distance and route options
The coastal trail between the Skåebukta and Mostranda areas is approximately 3 km one way. Return along the same route or plan an alternative return using local roads and paths. The municipality's 3.5 km circular route follows a different course and has its own map.

Starting points and parking
For the coastal trail, you can start near the Verdens Ende parking area and follow Skåeveien towards the blue-marked path. The municipality's circular walk starts near the public recreation area by Mostranda Camping, accessed via Moveien. Follow local signs and check parking conditions.

Terrain and accessibility
The coastal path has uneven surfaces, including rounded stones, smooth rocks and grassy slopes. It is exposed to the wind and is not suitable as a continuous route for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Wear sturdy footwear and bring windproof clothing.

Good to know
Moutmarka is part of Færder National Park. Camping is not permitted. Grazing animals may be present, so keep dogs on a lead and respect wildlife. Follow current rules on fires and access. Walking is possible in suitable conditions throughout the year, but rocks can be slippery.

Marinemuseet – Navy Museum

The Norwegian Naval Museum is located at historic Karljohansvern in Horten and is one of the world's oldest naval museums. Explore Norway's naval history through ship models, cannons, maritime equipment and stories of life at sea. The museum features more than 150 ship models and exhibitions tracing the development of the Royal Norwegian Navy through times of war and peace.

Discover Norway's naval history
Founded in 1853, the museum has been located at Karljohansvern since 1864. Its exhibitions take you from the era of the joint Danish-Norwegian navy through the Gunboat War and the establishment of an independent Norwegian navy after 1814, to the two World Wars and the Cold War. The historic gallery occupies its original exhibition hall from 1864. Here, models, weapons, maritime artefacts and equipment reveal how naval technology, warfare and everyday life at sea have changed over time.

Step aboard a submarine and a gunboat
Outside the museum, you can explore the submarine KNM Utstein and the gunboat KNM Blink. These historic naval vessels offer a closer look at the equipment, confined spaces and working conditions experienced by their crews. KNM Utstein provides a glimpse into submarine service during the Cold War, while KNM Blink represents another part of Norway's naval history.
Access aboard may be restricted. The vessels have narrow passages and changes in floor level, so check the museum's visitor information before your visit.

Guided tours and family experiences
With its ship models, historic equipment and naval vessels, the museum offers plenty to discover for both adults and children. Short themed guided tours are offered at weekends and are included in the regular admission ticket. Groups and school classes can also book guided visits, both inside the museum and around Karljohansvern.

Explore historic Karljohansvern
The museum is located within Karljohansvern, a former naval base that is now a cultural heritage and recreation area. Explore historic military buildings, tree-lined paths and the Horten Canal. In the same building, you will find Preus Museum, Norway's National Museum of Photography. Nearby, you can also visit KNM Narvik, a former Norwegian frigate preserved as a museum ship. KNM Narvik is operated independently and has its own opening hours and admission arrangements.

Plan your visit
The Norwegian Naval Museum is located at Kommandørkaptein Klincks vei 9 in Horten, approximately a 20-minute walk from the town centre. From September to May, the museum is normally open Wednesday to Friday from 11 am to 3 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. From June to August, it is open daily from 11 am to 4 pm. The museum is closed on 1 May, 17 May and from 21 December to 5 January.

Children under six enter free of charge. Admission prices are available for adults, children, seniors, students and families. The main exhibition is on the second floor, with lift access available by arrangement with museum staff. The historic naval vessels and parts of the ground floor are not wheelchair accessible.

Free parking is available in designated areas at Karljohansvern. Check the museum's official website for current opening hours, admission prices and guided tour information before visiting.

Kayak rental

The kayaks are rented out with vests and fiberglass veins.

The kayaks are in different weight classes and sizes of the brand Prijon; Seayak 500 LV, Seayak 520 HV and Kodiak models.

Padleled Vestfold og Telemark

Padleled Vestfold og Telemark is Norway's first continuous paddling trail. The complete trail consists of 1,428 kilometres of graded paddling routes, with suggested trips for different skill levels.

Along the Vestfold coast, you can choose from 91 suggested trips stretching from Svelvik in the north to Helgeroa in the south. The routes are graded by difficulty, and the trip descriptions include maps and practical information about parking, fresh water and toilet facilities. The Vestfold routes are also available on UT.no.

Several simple paddling shelters, known as padlehuker, are located along the trail and provide places to stop for a break or stay overnight. In Vestfold, you will find them in Holmestrand, Færder, Tønsberg, Sandefjord and Larvik. The shelters are open to everyone and cannot be reserved.
