Known as the "town beneath the mountain", Holmestrand has a distinctive setting between the steep cliffs and the Oslofjord. From Utsikten, you can admire the town from above and enjoy sweeping views across the fjord. On clear days, the landscape stretches across three Norwegian counties: Vestfold, Akershus and Østfold.

Discover the Landmarks Across the Fjord
Which islands, towns and mountains can you actually see from Utsikten? At the viewpoint, a large information panel helps visitors identify the surrounding landscape. Featuring an aerial photograph of Holmestrandsfjorden and Breiangen taken by photographer Håkon Løken, the panel highlights islands, coastal communities, mountain formations and other landmarks.

Each location is labelled and accompanied by a short explanation, allowing you to compare the photograph with the panorama in front of you and discover more about the geography of the Oslofjord.

The information panel was created through a community initiative led by Holmestrand Bys Vel, in collaboration with Holmestrand Municipality and local businesses. It adds an educational dimension to the experience while celebrating the community's commitment to its scenic surroundings.

Take the Fjellheisen Lift or Explore Sikksakken
Getting to Utsikten is easy. From Holmestrand railway station, you can take the Fjellheisen lift approximately 70 metres up to Rove, at the top of the cliffs. The viewpoint is a short walk from the upper lift entrance, east of the residential care buildings.

For a more active experience, the historic Sikksakken trail offers an alternative route up the hillside. This distinctive zigzag path winds its way through the steep terrain above Holmestrand and underwent extensive restoration in 2026.
