Opera i Hønsehuset

Opera and musical theatre have become a regular part of Kirkefestdagene at Furu Egg. The event combines live performances with dinner and an evening together.

Soprano Margrethe Fredheim and bass baritone Magne Fremmerlid perform with Svein Rustad as accompanist. Fredheim has won several international competitions and has worked as a permanent member of opera companies in Germany. She is now based in Oslo.

Magne Fremmerlid has had a long career as an opera singer and has also been connected to MiSK. Together with Svein Rustad, they present a programme featuring opera and musical theatre.

Menu

Main course: Pork fillet Oscar with choron sauce, prawns, green peas and asparagus.

Dessert: Homemade crème caramel and an ice cream buffet from Furu Egg.

Coffee is included. Full bar service is available.

The Young Musicians’ Gala Concert

Since 2012, the Midgard Competition has provided a platform for young classical musicians. This anniversary concert features three former prize winners who have since established themselves as classical performers: cellist Birgitta Oftestad, soprano Eirin Rognerud and pianist Nikita Knykin.

The Norwegian Navy Band presents a programme featuring works by Friedrich Gulda, Edvard Grieg, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Modest Mussorgsky. The concert is hosted by the band’s presenter, Inge Hatlelid Mortensen.

Birgitta Oftestad opens the concert with two movements from Friedrich Gulda’s Cello Concerto. Eirin Rognerud and the Norwegian Navy Band perform three songs by Edvard Grieg, followed by Nikita Knykin performing the third movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto.

The programme also includes the Midgard Competition’s own fanfare, Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in B minor and excerpts from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

The concert is conducted by Ingar Bergby, who served as principal conductor of the Norwegian Navy Band from 2008 to 2014 and has since returned as a guest conductor on several occasions. He has also conducted a number of Norwegian and Nordic symphony orchestras.

The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker is a classical Christmas ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, based on the story of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince. The audience follows Clara on an adventurous journey on Christmas Eve, with toy soldiers, snowflakes, mice and the Kingdom of Sweets.

The performance is based on Marius Petipa’s classical choreography and is presented by dancers from Etoile Production, a ballet company established in Kyiv by soloists from the Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The music is performed partly by a string quartet on stage, combined with a recording by the Kharkiv Opera orchestra. The live musicians form an integrated part of the performance, bringing the music and dance together.

The Nutcracker is suitable for the whole family and can be a good introduction to classical ballet for children.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The performance is presented by Kultur for Folket in collaboration with Etoile Production.

The production uses handcrafted theatre costumes and stage design, with professional stage lighting as part of the performance.

Festspillene i Tønsberg

The opening concert will feature Marinemusikken (the Royal Norwegian Navy Band), one of Norway’s finest concert band, performing together with outstanding soloists and one of Norway’s most accomplished conductors.

The Festspillene i Tønsberg is a new major initiative in classical music. The Festival was held for the very first time in the fall of 2025 in Tønsberg Cathedral with musical experiences of international class!

The Festival combines local cultural life with a clear focus on international ties and a high artistic level. The audience can look forward to concerts with some of Norway's leading musicians, as well as artists from Ireland, Poland, Austria and Azerbaijan.

The goal is to create a festival that both reflects the rich cultural life in the region and at the same time opens the doors to impulses from outside.
