Guided Tour at Kurbadet

Take part in guided tour in Kurbadet, the old health resort.

Sandefjord became reknowned in Europe in the middle of 1800s as a centre of medical baths. Sandefjord bath were opened as a health resort in 1837, and both royalty and well known figures from the arts world were among the guests at the spa. The resort "Kurbadet" remained in operation until the second World War.

The spa has become a "cultural bath", and today houses different culture associations, the bar Kurbadhagen and the art gallery, Galleri Brown.

Sandefjord Culture Day 2026

On Saturday 5 September, Sandefjord comes alive with culture, art, music, food and activities as the city’s cultural scene comes together for Sandefjord Culture Day.

Throughout the day, you can experience a farmers’ market and creative knitting at Torvet, a Viking festival at Vikingparken, an open whaling ship aboard Southern Actor, art exhibitions, a festival for children and young people, a graffiti workshop, concerts, blues, jazz and karaoke. There will also be activities at Lilletorget in Stokke.

The Culture Day officially opens at 12:00 at Kurbadet, with performances by Tutti and Mini Tutti together with Vesta choir.

LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN – 250TH ANNIVERSARY!

Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn in 1770, and in 2020 the whole musical world is looking forward to celebrating his 250th birthday.  

TO BEethoven – or not TO BEethoven!

From the opening ceremony in the world’s first and only sensory church – Tomaskirken at the centre for deaf people at Signo in Andebu – 29th of January to Beethoven’s birthday on the 16th of December, you may join us on a unique musical journey. In solo, chamber and orchestral concerts with the finest of Norwegian musicians – and with guests from Beethoven’s two cities Bonn and Vienna – you are invited to take part in the biggest birthday party ever arranged in Sandefjord.

Borrekaupangen 2026

The next Borrekaupangen will take place in 2028!

Step back into the Viking Age when Borrekaupangen once again comes alive with trade, crafts and memorable experiences in the summer of 2028.

Set in the historic surroundings of Borre in Horten, one of Norway’s most atmospheric Viking markets invites visitors to enjoy days filled with history, culture and activities for the whole family.

At Borrekaupangen, you will meet Vikings from Norway and abroad recreating life as it may have been more than a thousand years ago. Explore market stalls with traditional crafts, taste historically inspired food, experience exciting battles and listen to stories from a time when Vestfold was a centre of power in the Nordic region.

The event offers interactive storytelling and activities for both children and adults. Children can try life as young Vikings, while adults can explore history, cultural heritage and authentic craft traditions.

Food at the market is provided by Bjune Gårdsdrift in collaboration with local farmers, with a focus on locally sourced ingredients and flavours from Vestfold. Meals are prepared with attention to quality, tradition and local food culture.

Borrekaupangen takes place in scenic surroundings at Prestegårdstranda and the iconic burial mounds at Borre, an area considered one of Northern Europe’s most important Viking Age cultural heritage sites.

Parking

Free parking is available at USN Bakkenteigen, within walking distance of the market. Shuttle buses run continuously to and from the market during opening hours.

Parking close to the market area is also available for NOK 75.
