About Eidsfos Hovedgård
The manor was built around 1750 as the residence of the owner of Eidsfos Ironworks and is today considered one of Norway’s most important cultural heritage sites connected to the country’s ironworks era. In 1923, the manor was protected by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage as a rare and valuable example of Norwegian architectural history.

What makes Eidsfos Hovedgård truly unique is its historic garden. During the 18th and 19th centuries, it was regarded as one of Norway’s most impressive private gardens, with symmetrical flower beds, exotic plants and a beautiful landscaped park. The garden became especially well known through botanist and garden enthusiast Christine Marie Cappelen, who made the estate famous far beyond Vestfold.

Today, visitors can still experience parts of the restored gardens, the beautiful lime tree avenue and the impressive oak avenue leading down to Lake Bergsvannet. The park is filled with botanical treasures and historic details that create a truly special atmosphere.

Stay Overnight in Historic Surroundings
If you wish to stay a little longer, Eidsfos Hovedgård also offers accommodation in charming historic rooms. Here you stay surrounded by cultural history, beautiful nature and peaceful surroundings – perfect for a relaxing getaway in Vestfold.
