Hans-Wilhelm Steinfeld: Russia, Our Troubled Present

Hans-Wilhelm Steinfeld takes the audience on a journey through Russian politics, society and history, drawing on his many years as a journalist and foreign correspondent.

Steinfeld worked for NRK from 1976 to 2014 and served as the broadcaster's Moscow correspondent during four periods. He reported on the final years of the Soviet Union, its dissolution and the development of Russia under Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin.

During the attempted coup in Moscow in 1991, Steinfeld interviewed Boris Yeltsin. The interview was broadcast internationally, and Mikhail Gorbachev reportedly listened to it while being held in captivity in Crimea.

The talk examines the historical developments behind today's Russia and the relationship between politics, society and history. Steinfeld also draws on his own experiences reporting from Russia and other parts of Eastern Europe.

Steinfeld holds a cand.philol. degree from the University of Bergen, with history as his main subject and studies in Russian and social sciences. He also studied at Moscow State University and St Antony's College, Oxford. He has received several awards for his journalism, including the Scandinavian Journalist Prize, the Narvesen Prize and the Peer Gynt Prize.

This evening offers an insight into Russia's modern history and current political development through Steinfeld's experience as a journalist and Russia correspondent.

Mozart’s Requiem at Larvik Church

In 2026, Tønsberg Cathedral Choir celebrates its 20th anniversary with a concert during All Saints’ weekend.

The programme features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, a major work of classical sacred music, and Joseph Haydn’s Te Deum, a festive work for choir and orchestra.

All Saints’ weekend is traditionally a time for remembrance and reflection, as well as hope. Mozart’s Requiem brings a solemn and contemplative character to the concert, while Haydn’s Te Deum adds a contrasting musical expression.

The anniversary concert brings the two works together at Larvik Church and marks 20 years of Tønsberg Cathedral Choir.

Cirkus Arnardo i Larvik

Cirkus Arnardo returns to Larvik with an international circus show featuring a combination of traditional and contemporary circus artists.

The circus tent will be set up at Hovlandbanen, with performances from Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27.

Artists and crew from 17 different countries take part in the production. The audience sits close to the ring, with a maximum distance of approximately 10 metres.

The performance lasts approximately 90 minutes and is suitable for the whole family. The programme features circus acts, action, humour and excitement.

Tenn lys – Julekonsert med Åsmund og Anders

Brothers Åsmund Gjønnes Tvedten and Anders Gjønnes from Tjølling invite audiences to a Christmas concert in the main hall at Bølgen.

The programme features their own Christmas favourites, from songs by Norwegian songwriter Alf Prøysen and well known Norwegian Christmas songs to American Christmas classics. There will also be a few surprises.

This year, the brothers are joined by musician Johannes Winther Farstad.

The concert combines Christmas music, lyrics and humour for an evening of seasonal favourites.

 

Blåbråk with Slakt, Mystery, I Ustand and Avgudsdyrkelse

Blåbråk brings together four of the most uncompromising youth bands from Fabrikken Ungdomshus for an evening of rock and metal at Blåboksen.

On stage:

Slakt – melodic rock and metal inspired by Iron Maiden.
Mystery – energetic Black'n'Roll blending hard rock, black metal, punk, and thrash.
I Ustand – melodic rock and progressive influences with a distinctive sound.
Avgudsdyrkelse – blackened death metal with intense live performances.

This is an alcohol-free event for young people. Free earplugs will be available at the entrance.

Verdiløse Menn

Verdiløse menn is a musical written by Christopher Nielsen, based on the songs and lyrics of his brother Joachim Nielsen.

The story follows Goggen, who is alone at home and looking for company. His old friends have found jobs or partners, while Kleggen is still available. When Kleggen arrives with a six-pack and Knugern in tow, the story takes a new turn.

Throughout the production, Joachim Nielsen’s music is woven into stories about friendship, love, substance abuse, social exclusion and loss. The songs are performed by three musicians from Jokke’s former band.

The cast includes Jan Sælid, Gard B. Eidsvold, Kim Sørensen, Marte Engebrigtsen and Per Egil Aske.

The music is performed by Valentourettes, featuring Petter Baarli, Peter Pogo and Runar “Kula” Johannessen.
