Kvelde Mølle

Kvelde Mølle

In the fertile Lågendalen valley, you’ll find Kvelde Mølle – one of the few remaining rural mills in Norway, with roots dating all the way back to the 1300s. Here, grain has been milled into flour for generations, and the traditions live on to this day.

At Kvelde Mølle, everything is about true craftsmanship. High-quality flour is produced from grain grown by local farmers in Lågendalen and surrounding areas – one of Norway’s best regions for grain production. Stone milling gives the flour a richer flavor, excellent baking properties, and a natural character. This is pure, unblended flour with no additives – honest products with a short journey from field to finished flour.

Kvelde Mølle was among the first in Norway to offer flour labeled “Nyt Norge” (“Enjoy Norway”), and today produces more than 35 different products – from finely milled wheat flour to coarse rye, spelt, and ancient grains.

Møllebutikken – The Mill Shop
Flour from Kvelde Mølle is available at the on-site mill shop in Kvelde, as well as in selected grocery stores and specialty shops in the region. In the mill shop, you’ll also find a selection of local food products.

A visit to Kvelde Mølle offers more than just quality ingredients – it’s an experience of tradition, local food culture, and true craftsmanship. Here, you can discover how an important part of Norway’s food heritage is still alive – right in the heart of Vestfold.

The mill shop’s opening hours may vary throughout the year. Please visit kveldemolle.no or the Facebook page Møllebutikken i Kvelde  for updated information.

Harald Kihle Art Museum

The museum offers insight into the artist’s work, style, and artistic expression – from his unique childhood drawings to his final works at the age of 92. Harald Kihle was one of Norway’s leading artists from 1930 to 1980, and through 170 works the exhibition tells the story of his life and artistic career.

Harald Kihle grew up just a stone’s throw from the museum, at Apenestunet. It was here that he drew his first horses – the working horse that later became a central motif in his art. The museum presents 170 works, ranging from childhood drawings created when he was 6–7 years old to his final works before his death at the age of 92. The collection includes woodcuts, lithographs, and paintings inspired by summers in Telemark, folk legends such as Telnes’ account of Guro Heddelid, Vinje’s cycle about Storegut, as well as many other works by Kihle.

The museum also preserves the artist’s complete archive, including sketches, preparatory studies, photographs, diaries, and other documentation from a long artistic life. The archive has been catalogued and digitised, and parts of the material are available at digitalmuseum.no.

The museum is part of the Apenestunet kunst- og kulturpark (Art- and Cultural Park), which also includes an art gallery, the historic sheriff’s residence, and a large garden area. Free parking is available. The museum is accessible to all, with near step-free access and a cafeteria.

The museum is located 10 minutes from the ferry terminal and 15 minutes from Kopstad (E18).

Admission

The museum is operated by the Horten Art Association in its own buildings, without public funding, and is largely run by volunteers.

Admission is free for children under 18 and members of the Horten Art Association.

Borre vikinglag

Borre vikinglag

The team is Norway's oldest Viking team, and among its members are all types of people, from archaeologists to farmers with a common interest in Viking times, history, Viking activities and the preservation of old crafts. Most of the team members make their own equipment.

The purpose is to spread knowledge about the history of Borre and Vestfold, especially in the Iron Age/Viking Age, and to expand knowledge about daily life and crafts in this period. Through practical knowledge of how the Vikings lived and active collaboration with archaeologists and professionals, history is continued. Here you can experience more than reading about history, and join in living like a Viking! The Viking team therefore makes clothes, tools, boats and equipment as the Vikings did. Through their work, commitment and enthusiasm, the image of the Viking Age is communicated to the public through activities at events and seminars. Midgard Viking Center is one of the Viking team's partners.

Every other year the market Borrekaupangen takes place at Prestegårdsstranda at Borre in Horten.
