Daytrip to Tvistein Lighthouse

Day Visits Summer 2026
During summer 2026, day trips to Tvistein Lighthouse will be arranged from Laberget marina in Nevlunghavn. The trips run every Wednesday from weeks 26–32, approximately 1:30 PM–4:00 PM. Guided tours are available for those who wish to join. Price is NOK 500 per person and is paid upon departure.

Tvistein
Tvistein Lighthouse was established in 1908, and the light was first lit the same autumn in a low tower on the roof of the keeper’s residence. Storage buildings and a boathouse for the lighthouse staff were also built, and the first lighthouse keeper was Johan B. Nielsen (1908–1913).

Tvistein Lighthouse is a unique cultural heritage site located on the outer edge of the archipelago off Nevlunghavn. After more than 10 years of restoration work and over 10,000 hours of volunteer effort, the lighthouse reopened for accommodation and visitors – a result of strong local commitment and dedication to preserving coastal history.

At Tvistein, visitors can experience coastal nature, history and traditional maritime culture up close. The lighthouse offers accommodation in historic surroundings close to the sea. Transport to and from the lighthouse is by boat from Laberget marina in Nevlunghavn.

Accommodation
The main season runs from 19 June to 16 August, when Tvisteins Venner serves as host at the lighthouse. Outside the hosted weeks, overnight stays are available on weekends from 14 May to 25 October 2026. Read more here.

Fjordstien

Fjordstien is a blue-marked coastal walking trail stretching approximately 9.6 kilometres between Larvik town centre and Stavern, along the western shore of Larviksfjorden. The route passes through woodland, over coastal rocks and past marinas and several beaches. Walk the full distance or choose a shorter section.

Along the fjord from Larvik
Starting in Larvik, the route heads west from the area around Indre havn and Batteristranda beach. Here, you can enjoy views across the fjord, with sandy shores and boats close to the town centre. Fjordstien continues along a mixture of pedestrian paths, gravel tracks and woodland trails. Along the way, you pass places including Jordfallen and Tenvik, where you can stop for a break by the water. On a warm day, you may want to allow extra time for a swim. This stretch of the Larvik coast has several small beaches and sheltered coves.

Coastal scenery and optional detours
The landscape changes throughout the walk, from woodland to open coastal rocks and small seaside communities. Some sections follow the shoreline closely, while others lead a little further inland. For an alternative closer to the water, you can take a detour along Fiskerstien. Check the trail map before choosing this option, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the area.

Art and culture near Stavern
Approaching Stavern, the route passes Sjøparken, a former industrial area at the historic Agnes factories. Here you will find Nerdrum Museum, art galleries and places to eat. You can combine the walk with a coffee break or museum visit, depending on opening hours.
Continue into the centre of Stavern to explore the harbour and streets before making your return journey.

A coastal walk in either direction
Fjordstien is marked in blue and rated moderately challenging. Allow approximately two hours for the full route, or longer if you plan to swim, have a picnic or stop at viewpoints. You can walk the trail in either direction. Snow-free conditions are best, and rocks and woodland paths may become slippery in wet or frosty weather. Wear shoes suitable for varied terrain. If you would like to continue exploring the coastline, discover the coastal trail in Stavern, which continues towards Nevlunghavn and Helgeroa.
